Sport for the Handicapped
The Department of Sport for the Handicapped
coordinates the performance of tasks related to sport and physical
fitness of handicapped persons i.e.:
1. participation of handicapped persons in the activities of sports and recreation sections.
2. participation of handicapped persons in sports and recreation events.
3. participation of handicapped sportsmen in central training, camps and consultations.
4. participation of handicapped sportsmen in paraolympics, world
championships and European championships as well as in other
championships of an international and national character.
5. advising and medical consulting as well as medical testing and diagnostics for handicapped sportsmen.
6. conducting sporting activities for the handicapped.
7. participation of handicapped persons in summer and winter sports and recreation camps.
8. training of coaches, instructors, physical therapists, classifiers and volunteers for sport for the handicapped.
9. promotion of sport for the handicapped.
10. purchases of sporting equipment.
The aforementioned tasks are subsidized by the Physical Fitness
Development Fund pursuant to the act of July 29, 1992 on games and
lotteries, art. 47d (Journal of Laws form 2004 no. 4 item 27 as
amended) and pursuant to the regulation of the Minister of Sport from
July 10, 2006 on subsidies to tasks from the Physical Fitness
Development Fund (Journal of Laws no. 134 item 944).
Besides the proceeds from the Physical Fitness Development Fund, the
state budget finances the following in the scope of professional sports
of handicapped persons:
- awards to competitors for achievements in international
competition sports (pursuant to the Regulation of the Minister of Sport
from February 27, 2006 on granting awards and distinctions to
competitors without a competitor license),
- sport scholarships for members of the national and paraolympic
team (pursuant to the Regulation of the Minster of Sport from December
29, 2005 on sport scholarships for members of the national handicapped
team and of the paraolympic team),
- awards to coaches (pursuant to the Regulation of October 16, 2003
on the detailed principles and method of granting distinctions,
decorations and awards for special achievements in the scope of
physical fitness)
