Sport
The entry into force of the Treaty of Lisbon has huge implications for the Presidency in the field of sport. First and foremost, the subject of sport has been included in the range of matters covered by the Education, Youth and Culture Council of the EU, chaired by the minister of the government of the Presidency. Secondly, Council meetings will be prepared by the newly established EU Council Working Group for Sport, headed by a representative of the Presidency.
Priorities
In performing Poland's EU membership obligations, and in implementing EU policies outlined in the White Paper on Sport, as well as national policies presented in the 2015 Sport Development Strategy and the Poland 2030 report, the Ministry of Sport and Tourism defined the following priority areas for the Polish Presidency in 2011:
a) Priority of the Polish Presidency, implementing the European agenda in the field of sport:
- European Union's sports policy
The 2nd European Sports Programme is to be adopted during the Polish Presidency. In order to become operational in January 2012, it needs to be adopted at the EU Council meeting scheduled for November 2011. Poland's task will be to work out a compromise on the programme during EU Working Group meetings and other informal meetings.
b) Polish Presidency's sectoral priorities in the field of sport:
- equal opportunities through sports as an element of social policy,
- economy-based sports policy.
Details of the above priorities are being worked out by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.
